| Description |
This piece is the only known example of the standing stag produced by the United States Pottery in Bennington, and was included in the Crystal Palace Exhibition held in New York. The stag was modeled by Daniel Greatbach, who had come to Bennington from England the previous year to serve as chief designer and modeler at the pottery.
It is thought that the standing stag, because of its slender, long legs, was probably considered too delicate for production, even with the stump support, and as a result was adapted to a reclining position. |
